CHAPTER 04 joins Qinghai and Mt. Tai through altitude. The climbs are separated in time and place, but the archive reads them through one line: stone, night, cold air, corridor, mountain, and the act of walking away without treating height as achievement.
The chapter measures distance less as geography than permission. Ascent becomes a way to ask how far one can move from a life before that life is still the thing being carried.
